if that was how we were going to treat the athletes right out of the gate,
what were we going to do to them later?
.
meanwhile,
i took a walking tour of rogersville.
rogersville is one of tennessee’s real gems
and any time you are visiting someplace,
putting in your miles and finding the hidden stuff off the main road go hand in hand..
.
the mileage total was not impressive,
but i got in good bit of time on my feet
(more important than people realize)
toured two old cemeteries
(tombstones back into the 1700’s)
visited the newspaper printing museum
(museums should not feature things i remember seeing in use!)
admired a lot of magnificent old homes
passed thru the old downtown,
for a closer look at how well it has been preserved…
.
we ended up crossing to an interesting building a little bit off the road
that we couldnt figure out what it originally was.
currently it seemed to have some apartments and some businesses
.
seeing someone inside,
i figured they might know about the building,
and i have a terrible habit of talking to strangers
(durb does nothing to encourage impulse control)
.
realitor dena brown not only filled us in about the building,
a “private hospital” to store people who were a little off center)
she had a wall of old rogersville photos
and a wealth of local lore.
.
the first day of these races is always a high point.
it is such a relief when the starting cigarette is lit
and everyone is finally off and running.
.
up until then it has been tense
making sure each stage on the way to the start happens on time
and hoping they are pulled off successfully.
.
by tomorrow we will be responding to an ever changing situation
with no pre-planning possible.
.
today everyone is fresh
and i have some spare time to indulge
.
play time is done,
back to email!
